Considered one of the world’s leading pioneers in the manufacture of metal aircraft, Claude Dornier began his career as an engineer in metal superstructure andbridge construction. Dornier graduated from the Munich Institute of Technology and went to work for the Graf Zeppelin Company in 1910. As a member of the experimental department for the Zeppelin, he tried to persuade the company’s officials to convert from manufacturing dirigibles to airplanes.
